About Homescapes
Homescapes asks you to help a butler named Austin restore his family's old mansion, one room at a time. The way you do that is by playing match-three puzzles. Clearing levels earns stars, and stars are spent on renovation tasks such as repainting walls, choosing furniture and fixing the garden, so each puzzle you finish makes the house look more welcoming.
The puzzle part is a familiar match-three board with extras. You swap neighbouring tiles to line up groups of the same kind, and bigger matches create special pieces such as rockets and bombs that clear whole sections of the board. Levels have goals, like collecting a certain item or breaking all the crates, and you have a limited number of moves. Combining special pieces is where the biggest moments happen.
The decorating part is what separates it from other puzzle games. For each task, you choose between options, such as a sofa in one style or another, and the room changes straight away. There is no right or wrong choice, so it works as a small creative outlet. A light story runs through the game, with family characters and little dramas, which gives context to your progress.
A few tips will help on harder levels. Look at the whole board before you move, and prefer matches near the bottom only when you want a cascade. Save boosters for levels that you have already failed, and be patient, because the game sometimes has a difficulty spike. Keep an eye on the lives system, since you can play only a limited number of attempts before waiting or paying.
Homescapes is free to download and contains ads and optional purchases, including coins and extra moves. Parents should be aware of the spending options and consider setting limits. An internet connection is recommended to save progress.
For people who like creative, low-stress puzzles with visible rewards, it is a comfortable game. Seeing a dusty room transform into a cosy one is a pleasant motivation to play just a few more levels.
One more thing worth knowing is that the story moves at a gentle pace. Characters appear, tasks unlock and rooms are completed over many weeks, so the game rewards players who return often rather than those who play in long sessions. If you enjoy collecting small achievements, the growing list of finished rooms is a pleasant way to track progress.
If you enjoy decorating as much as puzzling, the mansion makeover gives each level a visible, satisfying purpose.
