About Bejeweled Blitz
Bejeweled Blitz is a speed-based version of the classic gem-swapping puzzle. You have exactly sixty seconds to match as many gems as you can, and the game turns what used to be a relaxed pastime into a fast, exciting sprint. Each round ends when the clock runs out, and you try to beat your previous best.
The rules are simple. You swap two adjacent gems to form a line of three or more of the same colour, and the matched gems vanish and are replaced by new ones falling from above. Longer lines and chain reactions earn more points, and special gems such as flame, star and hypercube gems appear when you match four or five, causing larger effects. Cascades of matches that happen without your help are a source of bonus points.
Because there is a time limit, the strategy differs from slower puzzles. Rather than looking for the perfect move, you take quick, good moves and keep the board flowing. The final seconds are the most exciting, when a multiplier called the blazing speed bonus can double your score. Learning to build up that multiplier is part of the fun.
Boosts, such as extra time or score multipliers, can be chosen before each round.
Playing regularly helps your eyes to find matches quickly. Look at the bottom of the board first, because moves there cause cascades, and scan for four-gem matches to create special gems. Avoid wasting time on tiny moves in the final seconds, and focus on keeping a rhythm. Short rounds also make it easy to try again immediately.
The game is free with ads and optional purchases, and it uses an online connection for leaderboards and events. Friends can compare scores, which adds a little rivalry. It is a fine choice if you want a quick burst of puzzle action, and a round is short enough to fit into any small gap in your day.
Because rounds last only one minute, it works nicely as a competitive game among friends. Passing the phone around the table for a score contest is a simple, social way to enjoy it, and the leaderboards add more motivation for regular players.
If you enjoy fast, score-chasing puzzles, it is an energetic take on a classic that rewards quick eyes.
