About Ludo King®

Ludo King takes a board game that many of us grew up playing on the living-room floor and moves it onto your phone, with a few thoughtful extras. The rules are the ones you probably already know. Each player has four tokens, you roll the dice, you need a six to bring a token out, and the first player to take all four tokens around the board and into the centre wins.

What makes the mobile version popular is how easily it fits into real life. You can play against the computer when you are alone, challenge friends in a private room with a code, or join online matches with strangers. Up to six players can take part in some modes, which makes it a good choice for family gatherings where everyone wants to join in. A snakes and ladders mode and a tournament mode add variety if you get tired of the standard game.

Ludo is a game of luck and small decisions. The dice decide how far you move, but you choose which token to move, and that is where a good player separates from a careless one. A few simple ideas help. Try to keep tokens on safe squares when an opponent is close behind, avoid leaving a lone token a few steps in front of an enemy token, and think about blocking by placing two tokens on the same square. Capturing an opponent's token sends it back to the start, so timing your attacks can change the whole game.

The game is free, with ads and optional purchases for cosmetic items and extra dice or coins. There is also a chat feature in online play, so parents may want to check the settings for younger players. Some countries restrict certain features, and the available game modes may differ slightly by region.

For parents, it is also worth knowing that a match can run for a while, especially with four players, so it suits relaxed evenings better than a quick five-minute break. Playing against the computer is the shortest option. If you play with friends, agree on the rules beforehand, such as whether a six gives another turn, so that arguments stay friendly and the game stays fun for everybody.

If you want a friendly, familiar game that works for a quick match or a long evening with relatives, Ludo King is easy to recommend.

Who it suits. Ludo King is the digital version of the board game many families play at home. It suits groups of friends, cousins and relatives, especially when you cannot gather in one place. It is less satisfying for players who dislike luck, because the dice decide a lot. Choosing a mode. Playing against the computer is the easiest way to learn the flow. Private rooms let you play with people you know, which is the safest and usually the most fun, while public matches pair you with strangers. Decide house rules before you start, for example whether a six gives another turn, and whether tokens can share squares. Where skill matters. Although luck drives dice rolls, you control which token to move. Prioritise bringing out tokens when you roll a six, protect tokens near your home column, and think about when to chase an opponent versus when to run to safety. Using safe squares well is the main skill, and players who count distances tend to win more often over a series of games. Playing as a group. Agree on the number of players and the time you have. Games with four players can last a while, so choose a shorter format if you have limited time. Chat, spending and ads. Public matches may include chat and emojis, so parents should check privacy and chat settings and prefer private rooms for children. The game is free with ads and optional purchases, so set limits on spending if a child has access to a payment method.
